Scientists seek galaxy hunt help

The hope is that about 30,000 people might take part in a project that could help reveal whether our existing models of the Universe are correct.
Computers users undergo a three-minute online tutorial and are then allocated a series of images and asked to decide whether each one shows a spiral or an elliptical galaxy.
If it's a spiral galaxy, they're asked to decide which way it appears to be rotating.
The images come from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey telescope in New Mexico, US.
Kevin Schawinski, an astrophysicist at Oxford University, UK, is one of the team who devised the project.
"I classified about 50,000 galaxies myself in a week," he said. "It was mind-numbing."
He's hoping that involving the public will speed the work up.
"It's not just for fun," he added. "The human brain is actually better than a computer at pattern recognition tasks like this. Whether you spend five minutes, fifteen 15 minutes or five hours using the site, your contribution will be invaluable."

Do juce nisam ni znao za ovaj projekat, a sada vidim da si sale postavio link ka sajtu i tom projektu klasifikacije galaksija.
Tek juce kroz razgovor sa jednim astronomom iz kluba sam saznao za to, kao i da mnogi clanovi kluba provedu ponekad po sat-dva na ovom projektu i za to vreme klasifikuju oko 300 galaksija (obicno to rade kada je napolju oblacno vreme).
Nisam jos pregledao sajt, ali navodno se samo treba prijaviti, pregledati deo sa objasnjenjem (tutorijal), nakon cega se uradi test i ako se test prodje spremni ste za projekat.
Kazu da ima mnogo dobrih fotografija galaksija na ovom projektu.....a takodje i da je veoma zanimljivo.
Mnogo dobrih i jos nevidjenih fotografija ;) i stvarno je lako ucestvovati tj traze se bas laici a vec su se pojavile i neke interesnatne stvari kao npr da galaksija sa prstenom izgleda ima znatno vise nego sto se mislilo itd.
